As grateful as she was for such compliments, Merida wasn't someone to be fooled easily ; she had learned to see such painful expressions, to live with them, and to bear with such pain when doubled from her people and their sufferings. The young lass's smile faded as she carressed his cheek gently, her eyes never leaving his as she watched him tilt his head lightly, only to feel her soft hands that seemed impossible as they had gone through so much war. "Iain...", she muttered softly, the chilly wind gently surrounding them as their silence was drowned by the sound of the tree leaves brushing.
"You... shouldn't be sad," her eyebrows furrowed upwards, trying so hard not to cry with the sight of his eyes; they were obviously sparkling with tears and he tried so hard not to look unmanly and pathetic in front of her. "Please... Iain, please don't regret the past," she softly spoke, lips quivering as she smiled. "Ah'm here now.... an' you won't miss another day without me," she continued, now trying her best not to just smooch him on the spot, as she still mentally reminded herself that she was still a queen and her shyness had somehow grown into her a little bit.
".... Please... just kiss me now....?"
With each word she spoke he could feel the stinging in his eyes growing and he blinked it back, urging the tears to go away. How could he not regret the past? All those moments he longed to be with her, to share with her and hold her close and promise that they would never be parted and-
He swallowed faintly, his hands sliding down the spine of her back to her waist, tender and loving, but not daring to move into a territory he came so close to knowing many a time before. "Y'queen", he spoke, matter-of-factly, though with a sad twinge to his voice as he he wanted to accept her request and cover her in kisses and feel those tender, beautiful lips against his once more. He had been longing for them for years, and yet he was so close, and did not dare.
"M'I allowed to?"
The young queen merely sighed, a small smile lingered on her lips and a soft giggle escaped before she leaned forward and kissed his tears away as he instinctively closed his eyes.
"I was the one who asked you, my love."

This is still my fave crossover couples. I do like Astrid with Hiccup but if she did not exist I would pair him with Merida. And it is interesting that both he and her dad have lost their leg to save those they love. This is just so beautiful
